Continuing the story, the Grorud chair joins Fjordfiesta

The Grorud chair was designed in 1958 by Hans Brattrud as the perfect stacking chair for kitchens and cafeterias. Solid, simple design with veneer seat. The characteristic transparent back which is seamlessly integrated into the seat gives the chair a strong architectonic expression.

Available in 4 different metal finishes. The seat comes in walnut veneer, oak veneer and black stained oak veneer. For outdoor use with a black plastic seat.

The Grorud chair is defined by its rational construction, striking a sophisticated balance between low self-weight and high structural integrity. Originally designed by Hans Brattrud in 1957, the chair has been brought back to the forefront of Scandinavian interiors by our friends at Objekt, who reintroduced this mid-century icon from the design archives.

At Fjordfiesta, we are proud to have taken over the mantle of production, continuing the work of preserving this essential piece of Norwegian design heritage. Our commitment is to ensure that the Grorud chair remains available as a high-quality, sustainable tool for contemporary spaces.

The chair’s tectonic clarity ensures effortless reconfiguration, making it an ideal specification for high-traffic, multi-functional environments. Optimized for spatial efficiency and featuring precision-engineered stackability, the Grorud chair facilitates a seamless transition between active communal use and compact storage. It remains a testament to the enduring power of functionalist design—refined for the needs of today’s architects and interior designers.

New colours by Kråkvik & D'Orazio

To bring the chair into contemporary interiors, we've collaborated with design duo Kråkvik & D'Orazio, who have selected three carefully chosen colours:

  • RAL 1013 white
  • RAL 3013 red
  • RAL 6020 green

The seats come in oak veneer, walnut veneer, and black oak veneer, offering great aesthetic flexibility.

For outdoor projects and high-traffic areas requiring extra durability, the chair is also available galvanised and lacquered in the same colours, with a seat in recycled black plastic.
