This year we are launching the Armchair Model 1001 designed by Sven Ivar Dysthe in 1959. This iconic lounge chair lifted Dysthe to the international design stage and won him The American Institute of Decorations International Award Litation.
In production from 1959 the 1001 series was most probably officially shown for the first time during the furniture fair in Köln, January 1960. Framework in steel and rosewood , upholstered in classic black leather. In excellent vintage condition. This chair and other products from the 1001 range has been featured numerous times in the American TV series Mad Men. The chair is a hallmark of Norwegian mid century furniture design.
Sven Ivar Dysthe is one of Norway’s most prolific furniture designers. From 1951 to 1954 he studied industrial design at the Royal College of Art in London, and in 1958 he established a design studio with his wife Trinelise. His classic, the 1001 armchair, was designed for Dokka Møbler in 1959.
